Restart after a rough period
Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since my last update. My time in Australia ended with a crash and a recovery period — but now I can finally say: I’m fully recovered!
Coming back to life in the Netherlands wasn’t easy at first. It took me a few weeks to adjust again, but then something clicked. I went to XTERRA Zittau as a spectator, cheering for my dad and some friends. Being on the sidelines lit a fire in me. Not long after, I jumped back into a solid training block and lined up for two races — mostly just for fun.
The first was the National Championships. I finished 11th, with a strong swim and run, but the bike was tough and I definitely lacked power there. Still, I almost matched my time from last year, so I walked away satisfied. A week later, I raced a new Cross Triathlon in Voorden (almost a local race for me). I managed to grab 3rd place! Again, I had an amazing swim, the bike was okay — though racing on a gravel bike was a bit of a disadvantage — and I finished it off with a really good run.
Those back-to-back weekends gave me confidence, and they helped me decide: I’m racing the XTERRA World Championship in Molveno. This year is special, since it will be the last time the Worlds are held here. The past weeks I’ve kept training steady — nothing crazy, just consistent work.
Yesterday we arrived in Molveno. This morning I tested out the lake in my new wetsuit, the DeBoer Fjord 3.0. The rest of the week will be course recons, coffee with friends, and keeping it chill before the big day.
I’ll try to get another blog out right before the race (and of course one after). It’s going to be a fun week!
Q out ✌️
